Neurotoxins

Botulinum toxin type A or better known as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify are all injectable neurotoxins used in the treatment of lines and wrinkles. The treatment works by blocking nerve impulses to the treated muscle causing them to relax. 

Neurotoxin treatments are the most popular single cosmetic procedure in the U.S. and can help adult patients of any age improve their overall appearance, create a more youthful look, and leave you looking refreshed. The most commonly treated areas are: 

• Glabellar lines (“elevens” or frown lines)
• Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
• Forehead lines
• Downturned corners of the mouth
• The chin (“cobblestoned” appearance)

During your consultation, your provider will evaluate your area(s) of concern, review your medical history including medications, supplements, procedures, and allergies. It is important that you share your medical history fully as there are certain conditions, medications, and allergies that would make neurotoxin treatment unsuitable for you or increase your risk of complications.

During the treatment, most patients find it unnecessary to need any topical anesthetic to numb the area as the needles are very thin and the injections are not very deep. There may be a slight pinching feeling but there should not be much pain. 

Following the treatment, you will not see immediate results, this is normal. Depending on the patient, the area treated, and the product used, it may take 3-7 days before you start to see results. It will take 14 days to see full results of your treatment. 

Typical results last 3-6 months but are dependent on many factors. This will be discussed during your consultation.
